A Collection of Seven Early Garfield Ballantine Cartoon Books

This collection of seven early Garfield books, published by Ballantine, includes numbers 11-15, 20 and the early (1982) color book Here Comes Garfield. There have been over 50 Garfield books from Ballantine, all of them in this horizontal side-to-side format. Here Comes Garfield (1982) was not the first book (Garfield at Large--1979), but it is in color which is rare for a Garfield book, because most Garfield books are just compendiums of the collected cartoons which ran in daily newspapers. Here Comes Garfield also has the distinction of being a flowing story, not just cartoon strips from the newspaper bunched together. This collection includes Here Comes Garfield, Garfield Rolls On, Garfield Out to Lunch, Garfield Swallows His Pride, Garfield Food for Thought, Garfield Worldwide and Garfield Takes Up Space. All of them, except the last one, has the written name in ink inside the front cover, of the young man who collected these. The dimensions of the individual books are 8.5 inches by 5 inches. Here Comes Garfield, the oldest book, is in the roughest shape, but it still isn't too bad, mostly the spine and the edges of the front and back covers. There are no rips. This collection of seven books weighs 2 pounds, 9 ounces.
