Victorian children were popular subjects for German figurine makers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This pair, a boy and a girl, appear to be on their way to school. Lunch box, books, knapsack. Porcelain bisque they 14.5 inches high and are done in white, light blue and gold accents. They have a base of 4.25 inches. While there is maker's stamp each piece has a larger "No. 625" with a smaller "19" beneath it. I don't know if 19 might be 1919 or mean something else. They were made as a pair, being dressed in the same colors and patterns, blue flowers with gold accents, blue sashes. The boy's raised hand has been broken and glued at some point. He was carrying something in that hand, but it's hard to tell--maybe a box of pencils or chalk, as he appears to be carrying a writing tablet in his other hand. Very expressive pair of children. They weigh a combined 4 pounds, 4 ounces.
