This collector's plate is 8.5 inches across, ivory alabaster made in Florence, Italy. Second of a series of eight created by the Studio Dante di Volteradici based on the design by sculptor Alberto Santangela. The series ceased in 1984. The series represents scenes from the bronze Ghiberti Doors, on the Florence Baptistery, called the Gates of Paradise by Michelangelo. The octagonal baptistery stands near the Florence Cathedral in the Plazza del Duomo and is also known as the Baptistery of St. John. This plate comes in the original box with the original foam packaging. This box will be placed in a second box for shipping. Originally distributed by the Bradford Exchange. Back of plate is a bronze plague explaining (in Italian) the significance of the work. The Ghiberti Doors, done in 1424, were later replaced by a modern copy. With all its packing materials and box, this plate weighs 3 pounds, 7 ounces. Signed by A. Santangela, numbered plate, certificate of authenticity and booklet enclosed. Includes a ring for hanging. Does not include wooden stand.
